Aug. 1, 1963 - Columbia Pictures will distribute and invest in two previously announced projects by independent producers. One is Dino de Laurentiis’s $20 million production of “The Bible,” which is now planned as a series of films with several directors. Luchino Visconti, Orson Welles, and Robert Bresson are reportedly the first directors signed. And as the first of a two-picture agreement with Alan J. Pakula, producer of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Columbia will release “Inside Daisy Clover,” directed by Robert Mulligan, Pakula’s partner and director of “Mockingbird.” “Clover” is Gavin Lambert’s story about a tomboy who becomes a Hollywood star. The film will be made in color with Natalie Wood (pictured with Warren Beatty).
