Nov. 5, 1962 - Ava Gardner has been dropped from the cast of “The Pink Panther” because she made “excessive demands,” a spokesman announced today. The spokesman for the Mirisch Film Company said Miss Gardner was being replaced by the French actress Capucine (pictured) in the movie, which is being made in Rome. Janet Leigh had turned down the lead female role, as it meant being away from the U.S. for too long. The spokesman said that in addition to her salary, Miss Gardner wanted “a large personal staff around her,” a villa on the Via Apia Antica, a personal chauffeur and “24-hour limousine,” a personal secretary, and a special hairdresser.
