Dec. 25, 1962 - Opening today is “To Kill a Mockingbird,” a drama film directed by Robert Mulligan. The screenplay by Horton Foote is based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize novel of the same name. The film stars Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch and Mary Badham as his daughter Scout. Also appearing in the film are Phillip Alford, John Megna, Frank Overton, Brock Peters, and Paul Fix. The story centers on Atticus Finch, a widowed lawyer in Depression-era Alabama who defends a black man against an undeserved rape charge. In the process, his children learn about prejudice.
