Sept. 21, 1963 - On sale today is “Heat Wave,” the second long-playing record by the girl group Martha and the Vandellas. Released on Motown’s Gordy imprint, the album intends to capitalize on the success of the title track, released July 9, which rose to No. 4 on the pop singles chart and No. 1 on the R&B singles chart. The other material on the album is composed almost entirely of cover versions of current popular songs, including “Then He Kissed Me,” “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “If I Had a Hammer,” and “More” (from the film “Mondo Cane”).
