May 9, 1963 - On sale today is James Brown’s latest LP release, “Live at the Apollo.” The record, Mr. Brown’s first live album, was recorded at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre the night of October 24, 1962, at the singer’s own expense. On the record, released by King Records, Mr. Brown is accompanied by his vocal group, The Famous Flames. Brown’s record label, King Records, originally opposed releasing the album, believing that a live album featuring no new songs would not be profitable. The label finally relented under pressure from Brown and his manager Bud Hobgood.
