Sept. 16, 1963 - On sale today is “She Loves You,” a new single by The Beatles, a rock ’n’ roll group from Liverpool, England. Bandleaders John Lennon and Paul McCartney started composing “She Loves You” on June 26 after a concert during their tour with Roy Orbison and Gerry and the Pacemakers. Unusually for a love song, the lyrics are not about the narrator’s love for someone else. Instead, the narrator functions as a helpful go-between for estranged lovers: “You think you lost your love; well, I saw her yesterday. It's you she's thinking of – and she told me what to say. She says she loves you…” The B-side is “I’ll Get You.”
