NFL: Giants Edge 49ers, 21-20, in First Exhibition Game of '61

Aug. 13, 1961 - Dick Lynch (pictured) blocked an extra-point attempt and that proved the difference as the New York Giants edged the Forty-Niners, 21-20, today in the first exhibition game of the season for the NFL teams. Lynch boomed in to knock down Tommy Davis' conversion try after the Forty-Niners had gone ahead, 13-7, in the second period. The other big defensive play for the winners was Erich Barnes' interception of a pass by San Francisco's aging quarterback, Y.A. Tittle.
