NFL: Quarterback Sonny Jurgensen Impresses Eagles Coach Skorich at All-Star Game

Aug. 4, 1961 - If Nick Skorich, the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, had any doubts about replacing Norman Van Brocklin at quarterback, they were removed today in the 28th annual All-Star football game at Soldier Field. Skorich watched with obvious relish as the NFL champion Eagles pummeled the 1961 College All-Stars, 28-14, before a crowd of 65,000. It was evident that there was a highly capable replacement for Van Brocklin, who is now the coach of the new Minnesota Vikings. Sonny Jurgensen (pictured) demonstrated fine quarterbacking abilities as the pros continued domination of the collegians in the 28th all-star contest. NFL champions have won 18 games to 8 for the collegians. Two have ended in ties since the event began in 1934.
