Nixon Calls Hole-in-One "Greatest Thrill of My Life"

Sept. 4, 1961 - Former Vice President Richard M. Nixon got a hole-in-one on the golf course today. Mr. Nixon, playing with Randolph Scott, actor; former California Rep. Donald Jackson; and a friend, C.G. Rebozo, aced the 155-yard third hole at the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. Mr. Nixon called his feat "the greatest thrill in my life - even better than being elected." Jack Dover of the pro shop said that since today was national Hole-in-One Day, the former Vice President would probably win a medal from the sponsoring Professional Golfers Association. "Yeah," said Mr. Dover. "Mr. Nixon'll probably win some kind of medal. You can't get much closer to the hole than that."
