Nov. 3, 1962 - Richard M. Nixon, predicting victory in Tuesday’s election, pressed his campaign for Governor of California tonight with a statewide five-hour television marathon. “We will win next Tuesday,” Mr. Nixon declared. “The only question is by how much.” His optimism was shared by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower over the telephone from Baltimore. “I’m sure you’re going to be in Sacramento next year,” the former President told Mr. Nixon. Most experts rate the race even. The 2-minute telephone call from Gen. Eisenhower was among the first of more than 100 received in the Los Angeles T.V. studio of KTTV. A procession of Hollywood personalities appeared on the broadcast to voice support for the Republican candidate. Among them were Pat Boone, Victor Jory, Jeanette MacDonald, Jeanne Crain, John Payne, Lloyd Nolan, Ginger Rogers, Chuck Connors, and Efrem Zimbalist Jr. Jackie Robinson, the former baseball star, was also on the celebrities-for-Nixon list.
