June 14, 1962 - A group of heavily armed members of the Secret Army Organization (OAS) was arrested in France today by security police officials who charged that the terrorists were plotting to assassinate President de Gaulle (pictured with President Kennedy last year). General de Gaulle arrived in the region today on a speech-making tour of the Haute-Saône, Jura, and Doubs departments. Security officials refused to make public any further details of the alleged plot, saying only: “We hope to make more arrests.” Police officials responsible for the safety of President de Gaulle made no secret today of their anxiety. They acknowledged that members of the Secret Army commando group were still in the region.
