Dec. 9, 1962 - The defending champion Houston Oilers clung to their slim lead in the Eastern Division of the American Football League today by defeating the Oakland Raiders, 32-17, while the second-place Boston Patriots beat the San Diego Chargers, 20-14. Boston’s victory forced the race for the Eastern Division crown to the final weekend of the season. Houston now has a 10-3 record and Boston 9-3-1. In another game today, the Dallas Texans, who clinched the Western Division crown last week, defeated the Denver Broncos, 17-10.
