Dec. 16, 1962 - The Green Bay Packers had no worries as they went to work against the Rams in Los Angeles this afternoon. Word arrived early from Chicago that the Bears had beaten the Detroit Lions, 3-0, on a last-period field goal, and that result clinched the 1962 Western Conference championship for the Packers. So, the suspense has ended: the championship game at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 30, will be between the New York Giants and the Packers, the three-years-in-a-row champions of the West. The same teams met for the NFL title last year at Green Bay, and the big-city team took a 37-0 walloping. In today’s game at Los Angeles, the Packers turned back a surprising Rams team by 20-17 before 60,353 fans. Green Bay’s margin came in the fourth period on an 83-yard Bart Starr-to-Paul Hornung pass play.
