Packers’ Jim Taylor Currently NFL’s Top Rusher

Dec. 5, 1962 - With two weeks to go, Jim Taylor (left) of the Green Bay Packers continues to lead John Henry Johnson, the Pittsburgh Steelers fullback, for the NFL’s individual rushing honors. Johnson gained 98 yards against the St. Louis Cardinals last Sunday to gain some ground, but Taylor still leads, 1,239 yards to Johnson’s 1,016. Taylor scored twice last Sunday and took the scoring lead with 102 points. Bart Starr, Green Bay’s quarterback, ousted Eddie LeBaron of the Dallas Cowboys as the passing leader. Starr holds first place with 152 completions in 235 attempts, good for 2,103 yards. Bobby Mitchell of the Washington Redskins retained the leadership in pass receiving. He caught 8 passes against Pittsburgh to boost his season total to 61 receptions for 1,187 yards.
