Patriots Hand Broncos Their First Loss in AFL Game

Sept. 21, 1962 - Boston’s stout defense stifled Denver quarterback Frank Tripucka and Patriots receiver Gino Cappelletti (pictured) scored 17 points as Boston handed a 41-16 defeat to the previously unbeaten Broncos in an AFL game today. The Patriots scored 2 second-period touchdowns to break a 3-3 tie. Cappelletti made a diving catch in the end zone for one of the two scoring passes by the Boston quarterback, Babe Parilli. Cappelletti also kicked two field goals and five conversions. An alert Boston defense set up the tie-breaking score. Dick Felt scooped up a loose ball at the Denver 45 and ran to the 13. On the next play, Parilli passed to Jimmy Crawford for a touchdown.
