"Peter, Paul and Mary" Hits Record Stores

May 31, 1962 - On sale in record stores now is “Peter, Paul and Mary,” the debut long-playing album by the eponymous folk music trio. The two singles from the album, which was released by Warner Brothers Records, are “If I Had a Hammer” and “Lemon Tree.” The cover photograph was taken at The Bitter End in New York City. The trio is composed of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers. Manager Albert Grossman created Peter, Paulm and Mary in 1961, after auditioning several singers who were part of the New York folk scene.
