Sept. 26, 1962 - Rookie Willie Stargell (pictured) doubled home a run in the 11th inning today to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Stargell, recently brought up from Columbus of the International League, connected for his second double of the game to send in Bill Mazeroski, who had led off with a double and advanced to third on Donn Clendenon’s infield single. Stargell’s game-winning blow came off Johnny Klippstein, who relieved Jim Maloney in the 10th. The Reds have failed to score a run for Maloney in the last 23 innings he has pitched. The Pirate shortstop, Dick Groat, left the game in the 10th after being hit by a Klippstein pitch on the left side of the jaw.#MLB #baseball #OTD #1960s #pirates #reds
