President and Mrs. Kennedy Lease House in Newport for Summer of ‘64

Oct. 30, 1963 - President and Mrs. Kennedy have leased a house in Newport, R.I. that they will occupy next August and September. The announcement in Newport was confirmed in Washington by Pierre Salinger, White House press secretary. The estate facing Narragansett Bay is known as Annandale Farm. It adjoins Hammersmith Farm, the summer estate of Mrs. Kennedy’s stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh D. Auchincloss. The President and his wife spent part of the past three summers at Hammersmith Farm as well as at their own summer home in Hyannis Port, Mass., and at a leased home on Squaw Island at Hyannis Port. The main house of Annandale Farm is a large white structure with tall columns that externally resembles the White House. The estate covers 22 acres and has a swimming pool.
