Mar. 1, 1962 - Some of the nation’s leaders gathered for a prayer breakfast in Washington today. They heard President Kennedy say that religion was not a “cold war” instrument but was the basis of the difference that separates East from West. Mr. Kennedy quoted Abraham Lincoln as saying: “I believe there is a God. I see the storm coming and I believe He has a hand in it. If He has a part and place for me, I believe that I am ready.” The President went on: “We see the storm coming, and we believe He has a hand in it, and if He has a place and a part for us, I believe that we are ready.”
