Feb. 1, 1963 - President Kennedy received last night the 1963 America’s Democratic Legacy Award, presented annually by the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith. The league, which is holding its 50th annual meeting, cited the President for “distinguished contributions for the enrichment of our democratic heritage.” Henry Edward Schultz of New York, national chairman of the league, presented the gold medallion at a dinner at Washington’s Sheraton Park Hotel. In accepting, the President praised the work of the League. He said “your tireless pursuit of equality of treatment for all Americans has made a lasting and substantial contribution to our democracy.” The President said that Americans had the opportunity this year to make “a new world for all those who look to us.”
