May 2, 1963 - The French chef at the White House is now a French-American chef. He has become a United States citizen. René Verdon (right), who was hired by President and Mrs. Kennedy in April 1961 to supervise the White House kitchen, took his oath of citizenship today. “I am very, very proud,” he said. Mr. Verdon, 38, has been in the United States since March 25, 1958. He worked for a while at the Carlyle Hotel in New York — where the Kennedys have a penthouse — and at Essex House in that city.
