Jan. 2, 1963 - President Kennedy, in a New Year’s message to Soviet leaders, has assured them that the U.S. will miss no opportunity to “promote world peace and understanding” in 1963. The text of the letter, addressed to Premier Khrushchev and President Brezhnev, reads: “On behalf of the American people and myself, I extend best wishes for the new year to the Soviet people and to you and your families. The American people look forward to the coming year with the deep desire that the cause of peace be advanced. For our part, I assure you that no opportunity will be missed to promote world peace and understanding among all peoples.”
