Mar. 31, 1963 - President Kennedy drove his family and weekend guests from Camp David to nearby Gettysburg, Pa., today to tour the historic Civil War battlefield. Gettysburg’s most famed resident, former President Eisenhower, was not at home. He is spending the winter in Palm Desert, Calif. The President, wearing a blue sport coat, tie, and slacks, took the wheel of a new, blue convertible for the sunny, 25-mile drive to Gettysburg. With him were Mrs. Kennedy, who wore a yellow coat and a big straw hat; their daughter Caroline; Under Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. Paul B. Fay, and their three children. Helicopters returned the Kennedy party to Camp David.
