May 19, 1962 - President Kennedy visited his ailing father twice today and was reported gratified by the improvement in the elder Mr. Kennedy’s condition. The President arrived for the first visit at the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the NYU Medical Center at 11:20 a.m. After seeing his father, Mr. Kennedy spoke with a patient, Patricia Corte (pictured below). The second visit began at 6:30 p.m. and included other members of the Kennedy family. The elder Kennedy is undergoing therapy for the restoration of his speech and muscle facility impaired by a stroke last December. The President arrived for the morning visit in a limousine with a large police motorcycle escort from the Carlyle Hotel. Mr. Kennedy was greeted at the hospital entrance by 25 patients who sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.” He will be 45 years old on May 29. Looking tanned, fit, and rested, the President smiled and passed among his welcomers shaking hands. One patient, Elchana Bronstein, 26, of Rochester, N.Y., told the President he voted for him while an iron-lung patient in 1960.
