Apr. 3, 1962 - President João Goulart of Brazil arrived in Washington today for a state visit that the Kennedy Administration considers of great importance to Brazilian-U.S. relations and the success of the Alliance for Progress program. As President Goulart’s jetliner stopped at Andrews Air Force base a few minutes after 10 a.m., President Kennedy — hatless and coatless in the brisk spring air — stepped to the foot of the ramp. President Kennedy greeted Mr. Goulart warmly. The White House gave no information on the subjects covered during today’s conference between the two men. However, it is understood that Cuba was high on the list.
