Feb. 5, 1962 - Two men whose private lives are not very private compared notes at the White House today. Lieut. Col. John H. Glenn Jr., the astronaut, told President Kennedy that he wished the press would turn its attention to the scientific aspects of the space orbit he is scheduled to make Feb. 13. Col. Glenn said that some newsmen appeared most interested in such things as “how Annie [Mrs. Glenn] is getting her hair fixed.” Mr. Kennedy, who has extensive experience with that sort of thing, had no advice to offer. He did tell the astronaut that such publicity helped to humanize a complicated scientific program like Project Mercury. Colonel Glenn came to the White House today at Mr. Kennedy’s invitation.
