Prince of Wales Has Appendectomy, Doing Fine

Feb. 11, 1962 - The Prince of Wales underwent an appendectomy in a London hospital this morning. He had been taken from his preparatory school 50 miles west of London last night to the Hospital for Sick Children. A bulletin issued from the hospital said: “His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales underwent an operation for acute appendicitis early this morning. His condition is satisfactory.” Queen Elizabeth, his mother, who is at Windsor Castle, was in touch with the hospital by telephone. Prince Charles, 13 years old, is heir to the British throne. He is a thin but sturdy-looking boy. He has had most of the childhood diseases. In 1957, his tonsils and adenoids were removed. Since then, he has had chickenpox and measles.
