Princess Grace Backs Out of Hitchcock Project

June 6, 1962 - Princess Grace said today she had “abandoned the idea” of returning to Hollywood to make a film with Alfred Hitchcock. The Princess, the former Grace Kelly of Philadelphia, made the announcement in an interview to be published tomorrow morning. In giving her reasons for not appearing in Mr. Hitchcock’s film “Marnie,” she said plans to make the film early next year would not enable her to be accompanied by Prince Rainier and her two children during the expected three months’ shooting in Hollywood. Princess Grace also cited the “unfavorable reaction” to her planned return to a movie career, particularly among the 24,000 residents of Monaco.
