July 6, 1961 - The National League's starting lineup in next Tuesday's all-star game in San Francisco is set. Manager Danny Murtaugh personally selected as a reserve Stan Musial (pictured with Willie Mays), who will surpass his record by appearing in his 20th all-star contest. The starting lineup will be: Bill White, St. Louis, first base; Frank Bolling, Milwaukee, second base; Maury Wills, Los Angeles, shortstop; Ed Mathews, Milwaukee, third base; Orlando Cepeda, San Francisco, left field; Willie Mays, San Francisco, center field; Roberto Clemente, Pittsburgh, right field; and Smoky Burgess, Pittsburgh, catcher.
