July 6, 1961 - Ernest Hemingway (pictured in 1939) was buried today in the soil of the Western mountains he loved near the home where he wrote much of his prize-winning literature. The novelist, short-story writer, and war correspondent, dead at 61 of a self-inflicted shotgun wound, was buried under a blanket of red roses alongside the grave of one of his closest friends, Taylor Williams. The cemetery in which Mr. Hemingway was buried is surrounded by the Saw Tooth Mountains. The Wood River is also within view. There are 50 graves, including that of Mr. Williams, who had accompanied Mr. Hemingway on many fishing and hunting trips. Mr. Williams was buried there in 1959. #literature #books #greatbooks #death #obituary
