July 14, 1961 - Burton N. Pugach, a disbarred lawyer, was convicted today of arranging to have lye thrown in the face of his former fiancée. Pugach and a co-defendant, Heard Harden, were convicted on six counts of maiming, second-degree assault, burglary and conspiracy. Each faces a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison. Pugach, 34, was convicted of having Harden and two other men throw lye in the face of Linda Riss on June 15, 1955, after she had become engaged to another man. Miss Riss is now totally blind in the right eye and partly blind in the left.
