Republican Senator Styles Bridges is Dead

Nov. 26, 1961 - United States Senator Styles Bridges (pictured center last year) of New Hampshire, one of the most influential Republicans in the nation, died at his home in Concord, N.H., today. He was 63 years old. Senator Bridges died in his sleep at 5 a.m. of complications arising from a severe coronary attack suffered Sept. 21. Senator Bridges was a leading Republican through the long years of Democratic domination. His political career was meteoric. He was elected Governor of New Hampshire in 1934 when only 36 years old, and two years later he was elected to the Senate in the face of the Roosevelt landslide. Mr. Bridges won his fifth consecutive term in 1960.
