Rocky Won’t Share Ticket with Goldwater

Oct. 1, 1963 - Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York (pictured with Mrs. Rockefeller last month in Rome) said today he would not run for Vice President in 1964 on a Republican party ticket headed by Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona. Mr. Rockefeller, who arrived in Brussels today to officiate at the formal opening of a New York State business development office, broke a self-imposed silence on political matters that he has maintained since coming to Europe a week ago. “They wanted me to run with Nixon,” he declared. “They tried to draft me before, but it didn’t take.” Although the New Hampshire Presidential primary will not be held until March 10, interest in it is increasing among supporters of Senator Goldwater and Governor Rockefeller. Both Republicans will make appearances in the state later this month.
