June 21, 1962 - Secretary of State Dean Rusk got his first look today at the wall built in Berlin by the Communists and predicted it would be broken down eventually. The Secretary, gazing into East Berlin from a wooden observation platform at Potsdamer Platz, said: “It has to be seen to be believed. It is an affront to human dignity. The wall will be broken eventually. That is the story of human freedom. It must be set aright.” Mr. Rusk spent two and a half hours in Berlin before flying to Bonn, where he was the guest of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. He will stay in Bonn until Saturday morning for talks with Dr. Adenauer and the Foreign Minister, Gerhard Schroeder.
