Feb. 12, 1962 - Frank Sinatra appears to be a big hit on New York’s WINS radio station. Last night, the station passed the 48-hour mark in continuous broadcasting of Mr. Sinatra’s recordings. Since Saturday at 10:35 p.m., Mr. Sinatra’s voice has been interrupted only for news programs on the hour and half-hour. Ted Steele, general manager of the station, said the marathon would continue at least until 10 a.m. tomorrow. Mr. Steele explained that the continuous playing of Sinatra records came about without planning when a show on Saturday night ran short of material. He said he had suggested to Murray Kaufman, a disc jockey, to put on Sinatra records. “The response has been fantastic,” said Mr. Steele. “We have now thrown out the charts listing the top 10, the top 40 or the top 100 tunes. From now on, our music will be picked by the people. We will make our own surveys to find out what they want.”
