July 5, 1962 - Sir Winston Churchill’s pulse showed some irregularity today, the Middlesex Hospital announced. Sir Winston is recovering there from a broken left thigh bone. Sources at the London hospital said that an uneven recovery was expected in older men and that there was no cause for undue concern. They said Sir Winston’s day could be called less good than others, but not “bad.” A British Medical Association spokesman said: “This kind of development is quite common among old people who have had operations under general anesthetic. Without knowing the precise nature of the irregularity it is not possible to say what could be the cause or whether it is anything serious.” After a 40-minute visit with her husband, Lady Churchill reported: “He is resting well and is very peaceful. He is very quiet today and is looking happy.”
