Sophia Loren Files Lawsuit Over "El Cid" Billboard

Dec. 20, 1961 - Sophia Loren, the actress, brought suit today because she didn’t get equal billing with Charlton Heston on a 40-by-15-foot outdoor sign. “It is well known,” Miss Loren said, “that the billing accorded to an actor or actress is of the utmost importance.” She said in her court papers she had been promised “second star billing, above the title, on the same line, same prominence as that used for Mr. Heston, who receives first star billing” in the motion picture “El Cid.” She said she didn’t get it on the billboard. Her suit against Samuel Bronston, the producer, and others requests an injunction to keep her name from being used in advertising the film.
