May 9, 1962 - Tennessee Ernie Ford, who runs a down-to-earth television show, will be seen on Monday playing host to Maj. Gherman S. Titov, the Soviet astronaut. The surprise guest appearance of a Russian celebrity on a daytime entertainment program was announced today by ABC. The show, which was taped today in a studio at station KGO-TV, San Francisco, will be televised by the network on Monday at 11 a.m. According to ABC, Mr. Ford got Major Titov on his program by merely sending him an invitation. Major Titov was accompanied on the program by his wife, Tamara. The informal conversation between Tennessee Ernie and his Soviet guests dealt with simple things — hunting, domestic life, and food. As his guests departed, Mr. Ford handed them a parcel of food containing hush puppy mix, grits, and black-eyed peas.
