Texans Clinch AFL West Despite Loss to Bills

Dec. 2, 1962 - The Buffalo Bills upset Dallas, 23-14, today, but the Texans nevertheless clinched the Western Division crown in the American Football League. The title was assured when Denver lost to Houston. Dallas met a defense that limited its running game to 131 yards and hindered its passing attack. Buffalo, meanwhile, got improved passing from Jack Kemp, who completed 21 of 35 tosses for 230 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cookie Gilchrist of Buffalo picked up 63 yards in 19 carries to bring his 13-game total to 953 yards, 5 more than the league mark set by Billy Cannon of Houston last year. Gilchrist scored once and kicked a field goal and two extra points.
