Nov. 25, 1962 - Abner Haynes (#28) tied the professional football touchdown record today and led the Dallas Texans to a 35-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders. The victory clinched at least a tie for the American Football League’s Western Division title for the Texans. Haynes ran 33 and 19 yards for his 17th and 18th touchdowns of the season as the Texans posted their 9th victory in 11 starts. The defeat for Oakland was its 17th straight. Haynes equaled the all-pro record shared by Bill Groman of the Houston Oilers of the American League and Steven Van Buren of the Philadelphia Eagles and Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns of the NFL. When Haynes and Curt McClinton weren’t making big gains, Len Dawson kept the Texan attack moving with his passing. Dawson, the league’s leading passer, completed 9 of 13 passes for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns — his 25th and 26th of the season.
