Aug. 7, 1962 - A Spanish-language broadcast by a Miami radio station WMIE said today that more than 4,000 Soviet soldiers have been landed in Cuba. Five Soviet craft disembarked 2,500 men on July 29 at Mariel in Pinar del Rio Province in western Cuba, the broadcast said. The broadcast said four other transports landed 1,800 soldiers in Havana July 30-31. An inspection of Havana Harbor today disclosed one Russian ship, which docked earlier today. Havana newspapers said the ship brought “numerous” Russian technicians. A Washington spokesman said there would be no immediate comment from the State Department on reported Soviet troop landings in Cuba.
