Top of the Charts: “Roses Are Red (My Love)” by Bobby Vinton

July 14, 1962 - Hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 today is “Roses Are Red (My Love)” by Bobby Vinton. Mr. Vinton discovered the song in a pile of rejects at Epic Records. He first recorded it as a rhythm and blues number but was allowed to re-record it in a slower, more dramatic arrangement, with strings and a vocal choir added. This is the version of the once-rejected song that now reigns at the top of the charts.
