Feb. 11, 1962 - The various shades of conservative opinion will be reviewed by CBS on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 10 p.m. The hour-long show, “Thunder on the Right,” an installment of “CBS Reports,” will present personalities and movements ranging from the extremist Minute Men faction to Senator Barry Goldwater, Republican of Arizona. Jack Beck, producer of the program, said it will present scenes of rallies and of anti-Communist seminars as well as interviews with leaders of the various movements. In addition to Senator Goldwater, others who will appear include Dr. Fred C. Schwarz of the Christian Anti-Communist Crusade; the Rev. Billy James Hargis of the Christian Crusade; Capt. Edward V. Rickenbacker, board chairman of Eastern Air Lines; H.L. Hunt, Texas oilman; Robert Welch Jr. of the John Birch Society; and Ezra Taft Benson, former Secretary of Agriculture. Mr. Beck said that the program “hopes to show as many gradations of political thought on the right as there are on the left” and to show that “it’s a long way from the Minute Men to Goldwater.”
