Sept. 23, 1963 - Tonight marks the series premiere of “East Side/West Side,” a drama starring George C. Scott, Elizabeth Wilson, and Cicely Tyson. The series centers on Scott in the role of Neil Brock, a New York City social worker who works for the Community Welfare Service with his secretary, Jane Foster (Tyson). Miss Tyson is the first Negro to star in a television drama. Episodes will cover topics relevant to the inner city, with many controversial issues explored. On tonight’s episode, a prostitute (Carol Rossen) battles the parents of her baby’s derelict father for custody of the child. 10 p.m. on CBS.
