Sept. 24, 1963 - Tonight marks the series premiere of “Mr. Novak,” a dramatic series on NBC starring James Franciscus in the title role as a high school teacher and Dean Jagger as Principal Albert Vane. The series follows John Novak, an idealistic first-year English teacher at Jefferson High School in Los Angeles who often gets involved in the lives of his students and fellow teachers. Franciscus previously made a guest appearance on the now-cancelled crime series “Naked City” as an undercover homicide detective playing a high school teacher in a bad school.
