July 18, 1963 - “Temple Houston,” an hour-long series with Jeffrey Hunter (left) as a lawyer in the Southwest before the Civil War, will premiere on NBC-TV on Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The series, to be produced by Warner Brothers Television, will replace “The Robert Taylor Show,” which NBC canceled this week. Although the new series is very loosely based on the real-life circuit-riding lawyer Temple Lea Houston (1860-1905), the concept has been described as “Perry Mason out West.” The producers have tried to avoid any storylines that would embarrass the two surviving children of Temple Houston. The supporting cast features Jack Elam (right) and Chubby Johnson.
