TV: “The Addams Family” Cast Fills Out

Mar. 10, 1964 - Carolyn Jones, the motion picture actress, and John Astin, who played Dickens in television’s “I’m Dickens, He’s Fenster,” will co-star in “The Addams Family.” The comedy series, in which actors portray characters in Charles Addams’s macabre cartoons, will be televised by ABC next season on Fridays at 8:30 p.m.

David Levy, producer, said Miss Jones would play Morticia, the wife, and Mr. Astin would portray Gomez, the husband. Filming of the first episode will begin tomorrow in Hollywood.

The role of Lurch, the family servant, will be filled by Ted Cassidy, a Texan who is 6 feet 9 inches tall. The part of Granny will be played by Blossom Rock, Puggsley by 9-year-old Ken Weather wax, and Wednesday by 6-year-old Lisa Loring.

“Members of the family will not look like freaks, but they will bear a reasonable resemblance to Addams’s cartoon characters,” Mr. Levy said. “They will be costumed like the characters in the cartoons.”
