Two Youngsters Receive “Pupniks” from White House

Aug. 20, 1963 - Pictured left below is Mark Bruce, 9, of Columbia, Mo., being kissed today by a puppy named Streaker at Columbia airport. Yesterday, Karen House (right), 10, of Westchester, Ill., met Streaker’s sister, Butterfly, at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. “I feel like I want to cry,” Karen said after meeting her new pup. Both puppies are offspring of Pushinka, a daughter of Soviet space dog Strelka presented to President and Mrs. Kennedy by Premier Khrushchev, and Charlie, a Welsh terrier owned by the Kennedys. The two lucky recipients were chosen by Mrs. Kennedy from 5,000 applicants.
