U.S. Army Captain and Private Killed in Vietnam

May 29, 1963 - The Pentagon said today that a U.S. Army captain and a private had been killed while on a combat patrol in the central highlands of South Vietnam. The Defense Department identified the officer as Captain James Brodt (pictured), 30 years old. The private was not identified pending notification of next of kin. The Pentagon said Captain Brodt’s wife, Leason, and their 6-year-old twin daughters, Leslie and Catherine, live in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Officials said they had no details at the present time on the deaths. The 2 deaths brought to 63 the number of American soldiers killed in action in South Vietnam since the United States started building up its military aid program in 1961 against a threatened Communist takeover.
