Apr. 5, 1965 - Julie Andrews, snubbed for the role of Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady,” won the best actress Oscar tonight for her performance in the title role of “Mary Poppins.”

Rex Harrison, who recreated his Broadway role of Henry Higgins in “My Fair Lady,” was voted best actor in the 37th annual Academy awards presentations.

The best picture of the year was “My Fair Lady,” which won a total of eight Oscars to five for runner-up “Mary Poppins.”
